Breathing gas analysis
In an exercise test, breathing gas analysis determines both your aerobic and anaerobic thresholds very accurately and maps out your training zones. Your maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) is also determined. You take the bike test on your own bike that is placed on an indoor trainer, which gives you the best results. The running test is taken on a running belt.

During a lactate test, your personal thresholds are identified. This is done during a test where the resistance or speed is increased every 3 minutes until you can't continue. The lactate value in your blood is measured during each step during this test, so it can be determined what your aerobic (LT1) and anaerobic (LT2 or FTP) thresholds are.
